Punta Brava: Cabildo to replace pipeline in emergency mode

Following an iron chloride leak at the Punta Brava treatment plant, Cabildo de Tenerife has announced the immediate replacement of the damaged collector. Aqualia has filed a complaint, citing possible deliberate action.

The iron chloride leak at the wastewater treatment plant in the La Orotava valley (Punta Brava) has triggered serious operational consequences. Cabildo de Tenerife, as the infrastructure manager, has announced plans for the urgent replacement of the damaged collector in Puerto de la Cruz to restore full system functionality.

Aqualia, which manages the facility, has filed a complaint with the Guardia Civil Court in Puerto de la Cruz. In its statement, the company noted that the damaged pipe was not exposed to conditions that could cause a failure, suggesting possible deliberate action. Social media footage indicates the presence of a third party inside the facility at the time of the incident.

What this means: Cabildo and Aqualia are conducting an investigation to determine the causes and those responsible. Water from this plant is used for agricultural irrigation. It does not affect drinking water.
