Lanzarote: Monte Arballu sunk in Arrecife port, PLATECA pre-alert issued
The Canary Islands government activated the PLATECA pre-alert at 14:00 on 29 September after the Monte Arballu sank in Arrecife port. A leak of 10 thousand litres of fuel is contained by barriers.

The fishing vessel Monte Arballu sank in Arrecife port near the Naos breakwater. There were no people on board. Salvamento Marítimo attempts to raise the ship failed. A fuel patch measuring approximately 30 by 15 metres was detected.
The Autoridad Portuaria de Las Palmas activated the Internal Marine Plan (PIM) at 13:05 and deployed barriers. The Capitanía Marítima activated the National Marine Plan (PMN) at 13:27. Services are assessing the possibility of raising the ship. They will first seal the hull.
The leak is local and enclosed within the barriers. Ships in the port may face restrictions. The situation is stable.
